Double Ikat Patan Patola Silk Saree in Crimson & Magenta — Animal Bhat
Double Ikat · Naari & Animal Bhat · Horse, Elephant, Camel, Parrot & Swan
A magnificent double ikat Patan Patola in the rare naari-bhat (figure) tradition — the most complex and revered design in Patan's weaving canon. The crimson red body is woven with a repeating diamond lattice enclosing prancing animals: horses, camels, elephants, parrots and swans rendered in white, turquoise, yellow and green against the rich red and magenta ground. The magenta pallu carries the same animal figures in bold scale, framed by multicolour geometric borders. The selvedge runs in red with gold zari stripes. Both warp and weft threads are individually resist-dyed before a single thread is placed on the loom — the hallmark of true double ikat. No blouse piece included.

Patan Patola is one of the most complex weaving traditions in the world — both warp and weft threads are resist-dyed before weaving so the pattern emerges perfectly on both sides of the fabric. A single saree can take six months to a year to complete. The animal-figure (naari bhat) designs are among the oldest and most prestigious in the Patola repertoire, historically woven for royalty and worn as bridal sarees. This piece comes from the master weavers of Patan, Gujarat, where the tradition has been kept alive for over 700 years by just a handful of families.
